Project Description The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: The BAY Team will deliver locally mandated annual training of servers and sellers of alcohol promote a designated driver program at local establishments; the coalition will advocate for a local social host ordinance with an educational component for parents who serve minors; to help reduce youth access to alcohol the coalition will develop a marketing campaign to encourage parents to lock up liquor cabinets, advocate for an educational program as part of new local alcohol ordinances in the municipal court, and produce point of sale prevention materials and warning signs for liquor retailers; the group will also advocate for a Minor in Possession ordinance; with concern about rising rates of youth marijuana use, the coalition plans to educate parents on the harm of marijuana through a drugged driving prevention campaign, host regular parent meetings, continue the use of the Delta 9 prevention education curriculum, train school nurses in assessment to detect impaired youth, and support local support groups; the coalition will also create an educational program for offenders, map the marijuana arrests, and advocate for funding for prevention efforts in any proposed state marijuana legislation; and the BAY Team will continue to partner with the DEA to offer Drug Take Back events and promote the use of its permanent prescription drug collection box. Project Description The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: Enhance the skills of coalition leaders through increased participation in and opportunity for training on coalition building, environmental prevention strategies and best practices and Positive Community Norms; strengthen the coalition's capacity through cultural competency training and assessment, increasing members' leadership skills and writing a comprehensive sustainability plan; update community assessment reports with all relevant current data and present to the community increasing awareness of local underage substance use factors; reduce availability of and access to alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs by youth through increased patrols, compliance checks and enforcement of the Social Host Law; change the culture and context within which decisions about underage alcohol and marijuana use are made through targeted marketing campaigns, policy changes and encouraging positive social norms; shift the consequences associated with underage alcohol and marijuana use through recognition programs and clear rules and consequences in the home....
