SAMHSA is announcing the availability of funds for up to $16.8 million for the Healthy Transitions program

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for the Healthy Transitions: Improving Life Trajectories for Youth and Young Adults with Serious Mental Disorders grant program, which will provide up to $16.8 million over the next five years.

The purpose of this program is to improve access to treatment and support services for youth and young adults, ages 16-25, who have a serious emotional disturbance (SED) or a serious mental illness (SMI).

“This program aims to provide help to young people with serious mental illnesses at a crucial time,” said Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Dr. Elinore F. McCance-Katz. “Data show how important it is to provide treatment and recovery services for young people as soon as they are diagnosed with these serious conditions, in order to improve their chances of recovery.” 

SAMHSA expects to fund four grantees with up to $1 million per year for up to five years. The actual award may differ based on availability of funds.  The funding opportunity announcement for this grant is available at https://www.samhsa.gov/grants/grant-announcements/sm-18-010.

WHO CAN APPLY:  Eligible applicants are states and federally recognized American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribes and tribal organizations. Please see Section III-1 of the FOA for complete eligibility information.

HOW TO APPLY:  All applicants must register with the National Institutes of Health’s electronic Research Administration (eRA) Commons in order to submit an application.  This process takes up to six weeks.  If you believe you are interested in applying for this opportunity, you must start the registration process immediately.  Do not wait to start this process.  If your organization is not registered or you do not have an active eRA Commons account by the deadline, the application will not be accepted.  Applicants must also register with the System for Award Management, SAM.gov, and Grants.gov.

APPLICATION DUE DATE:  May 14, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time. Applications must be received by the due date to be considered for review.
