SAMHSA thanks you for a fantastic National Prevention Week 2024! Our events and activities this May 12-18 celebrated the possibility of prevention and communities helping to promote the world we want to see—where prevention helps keep people and communities healthy and safe.
This National Prevention Week, SAMHSA was thrilled to host virtual activities and events:
- Kickoff Celebration (Recording Available Now!): Featured U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, SAMHSA leadership, and SAMHSA grantees at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) as they honored the 2024 FentAlert Challenge winners! View the recording of the National Prevention Week Kickoff Celebration (49 minutes, 45 seconds).
- Learning Session co-hosted by Communities Talk and the “Talk. They Hear You.”® campaign: Highlighted the remarkable efforts of our community partners, showcasing the critical work they’ve accomplished this year. View the recording.
- Community Showcase Video: Highlighted the collective power of the prevention community, featuring grantees and coalition members from across the country. Watch the video (5 minutes, 6 seconds).
Let’s carry the momentum forward!
- Be sure to share photos and videos from your events and spread the good news of prevention using the hashtag #NationalPreventionWeek24 on social media.
- Amplify the power of prevention by sharing your #MyPreventionStory! Whether it’s how you’re helping to prevent substance use or taking steps toward better mental health, every journey is unique. Your story can inspire change! All types of stories are welcome in any format, including videos, photographs, artwork, poems, and written stories. We hope you’ll share your story in whichever medium feels most authentic to you. Learn how you can create your story or help others create their stories.
- We recognize that prevention happens every day, not just during the second week of May. As such, SAMHSA created a new, ongoing virtual series to showcase, elevate, and celebrate prevention organizations that are creating positive social impact, fostering collaboration, and effectively responding to the changing substance use landscape. Stay tuned for our upcoming virtual series activities and events!
Thank YOU for making National Prevention Week a success. We can’t wait for next year!
