Through its Governor's and Mayor's Challenges, SAMHSA and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs support the implementation of a public health approach for the prevention of suicide among service members, veterans, and their families. VA/SAMHSA Suicide Mortality Review Process
The VA/SAMHSA Suicide Mortality Review Process is designed to support teams in the development of a Suicide Mortality Review Committee (SMRC), a collaborative group of individuals that evaluate suicide deaths in a particular location or jurisdiction with the intent of identifying risk factors for and protective factors against suicide deaths that are unique to that location.
